Piston Skirt

This component is the PrecisionPiston, the essential moving and force-generating core within a FixturingCylinder. As the primary interface that converts pneumatic pressure into linearmechanical force, its integrity and accuracy are paramount to the entireclamping system’s performance. It is applied across all industries utilizingpneumatic automation, such as Automotive, Aerospace, and Precision Manufacturing.

End-market demands for the clamping unit requirethe piston to deliver not only consistent force but also exceptional wearresistance and perfect sealing over millions of cycles. In a competitivelandscape, the longevity and zero-leakage performance of the piston becomecritical factors in the total cost of ownership.

This piston is manufactured through a rigorousprocess: precision-machined from high-grade materials, followed by specializedfinishing. Machining is performed on high-precision CNC lathes and grinders, utilizing ultra-precise, wear-resistant tools and dedicated fixtures to ensuregeometric perfection and inherent compatibility with the cylinder bore.

Meeting the exceptionally high requirements fordiameter tolerance, surface finish, and concentricity – with criticalspecifications often reaching μm-level precision – places significant demandson process control and technical stability. Pistons manufactured to thesestandards demonstrate reliable movement, consistent force transmission, andachieve a service life in harmony with the cylinder, reliably exceeding 3million cycles under standard conditions.

In contrast, pistons produced to substandardtolerances or with improper finishes are a primary failure point. Issuesinclude premature seal wear leading to internal leakage and force loss, gallingor scoring of the cylinder bore, increased break-away friction (stiction), andunbalanced forces causing erratic motion. Such defects directly cause clampfailure, production downtime, and costly system repairs.

Precise Tolerance Features for Pistons We Deliver:

With Drawing: Standards as low as:

Piston Diameter Tolerance: g6, f7 (for dynamic sealfit).

Surface Roughness (Sealing & Bearing Lands): Ra0.2 μm – Ra 0.4 μm.

Roundness & Cylindricity: ≤ 0.003 mm.

Concentricity (of grooves/sealing lands to OD): ≤ 0.005 mmTIR.

No Drawing: General dimensions conform to ISO 2768fine or equivalent.

Relevant or Similar Components: Wear rings, pistonrods, plungers, hydraulic pistons.

Machining Capabilities:
CNC turning, precision cylindrical grinding, groovemachining, superfinishing/honing.

Machinable Materials:
Hardened Alloy Steel, Stainless Steel (e.g.,17-4PH), Anodized Aluminum, Bronze, POM (for lightweight applications).

Available Surface Treatments:
Hard Chrome Plating, Nitriding, PTFEImpregnation/Coating, Precision Polishing.

Component Validation & Inspection Equipment:
Each piston is validated for critical dimensionsusing micrometers, air gauges, and CMMs. Surface finish is verified withprofilometers. Geometry (roundness, cylindricity) is confirmed with dedicatedrotary testers. Functional validation is performed through fit-checks withmaster bores and seals.
